What is Peergrade?

Peergrade makes it easy for teachers to run peer feedback sessions with their students. Students hand in a piece of work and give feedback to each other. This way students get much more feedback without extra work for the teachers. Most importantly the act of reading work of others, reflecting about its qualities and formulating useful feedback is an excellent learning activity.

Testimonials

Peergrade is the best thing to happen to writing in a long, long time. With a well-designed rubric, I can teach students to become editors themselves and shift some of the burden of grading from my shoulders to theirs. Students can spend far more time with essays than I ever could.

// Willard Volding, ELA Teacher, Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, U.S.A.

It’s probably the best app available for encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning.

// Tony Jones, Science & Physics, Taradale High School, New Zealand

The midterm evaluation of the course has shown that the students think it works fantastically well. The students are as good as me in picking the best texts from their fellow students.

// Mads Bunch, Associate Professor, University of Copenhagen

Complex and open ended assignments are a key part of my teaching. But it is difficult to use these as a teaching tool in large classes, because of the high time-cost associated with grading and providing detailed feedback. Using Peergrade we were able to provide dramatically better feedback in a course with 100+ students. In addition, Peergrade is easy to use and made it possible to get up and running quickly.

// Sune Lehmann, Associate Professor, Technical University of Denmark

With this, they are then able to understand what could be possible to further push each other within the current learning boundaries I have provided them with. It’s great to see how one piece of learning can be interpreted in an infinite amount of ways.

// James Macintyre, Technical Tutor Digital Media, University for the Creative Arts

Peer grading was an exceptionally useful tool that let the students receive more feedback, let them see other examples of good (and bad) work that they can take inspiration from, and helped them to familiarise themselves with the department’s grading criteria through practically applying it to their peer’s work.

// Vincent Keating, Assistant Professor, University of Southern Denmark

It is a good way for students to become familiar with the criteria, providing feedback sharpens their thinking, it’s useful for both receivers and givers of feedback and it’s good for learning together. And, it also saves me time!

// Amber Walraven, Assistant Professor, Radboud Graduate School of Education
